The project included the demolition of two existing original greenhouses that were dilapidated to the point in which they became a maintenance concern rather than functional operation. A new larger single greenhouse located within the same footprint was constructed that included new technology such as automation of shading, motor controlled venting and radiant heating. Both existing historic structures (Conservatory and Planting House) that remained and connected to each end of the new greenhouse also included renovations such as exterior restoration of wood repairs and new paint.
Design services included a thorough investigation of the existing greenhouse foundations to determine a possible reuse as well as structural review of both connecting structures to determine the restoration work necessary to maintain longevity of usage.
